Farewell to the Playwright Franz Csiky

11 June 2016

It is with great sadness that we heard about the passing of writer and playwright Franz Csiky, on the 2nd of June 2016; a playwright and friend of the German State Theatre (GSTT).
Franz Csiky was born in 1950 in Medias, Sibiu County. After finishing his Germanistic Studies, he went on to work as a playwright at the German Section of the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre in Sibiu and the German State Theatre in Timisoara. In 1983 he moved with his family to Germany. Between 1984 and 1987 he worked as a playwright at the Bruchsal State Theatre (BLB), and between 1992 and 2016 he was the spokesperson of the city Bretten.
Throughout this time, Franz Csiky remained a friend and collaborator of the German theatre scene in Romania. As such, in the 2009/2010 season, Franz Csiky was a supporter of the co-production between The German State Theatre and the Bruchsal State Theatre, the show “Goethe, Lenau, Faust, the exploration of a myth”, by Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Nikolaus Lenau, directed by Carsten Ramm.
The German State Theatre offers its sympathy to the bereaved family.
